We are not overfat, we are under muscled.

This thought process changed everything for me when I first heard it from Dr. Gabrielle Lyon at a Metabolic Analytics seminar in Arizona in 2018. Flashbacks of the Saturday morning classes at the gym I grew up going to on Long Island seemed to auto process through my brain. Week after week women packed a room and exercised until you saw fog covering the glass. The weights never changed and progress was measured by how much sweat was left on the floor. No evaluation ever preceded this “boot camp” style training and no tangible progress was ever quantified.

Don’t get me wrong this is better than doing nothing, but there are levels to this.  Some people are ok with just exercising while others want to know that their most valuable asset, their time, was used appropriately to address a specific need.

Could there be a better way?

Muscle IS the organ of longevity and moving the needle in the right direction requires a stimulus specific to unique needs of the trainee.  Executing barbell, dumbbell, bodyweight exercises on a structured program under the supervision of a coach allows for all this to be possible.  Feeling better when you leave than when you walked in is the goal.

Better is better.  Tired is not better.
