Meet a Dad – Jeff Stopa

I originally grew up in Caribou Maine. I come from a family of 5  2 boys and 3 girls.  I spent my summers growing up in Fairfield and my winters in Maine with my mom and sister Jessica. I always felt it was my true home so I moved to Fairfield a week after I graduated high school in Maine. About 6 months later I started Stopa landscaping with the help of my dad who gave me 10 accounts which I’ve grown and now employ 40 people.

I got married to Kate Guinta’s of Shelton in 2012 we have 2 girls who are 10 and 6 . They are the brightest part of my life. I love watching the girls grow up and develop wonderful artistic skills but most importantly to me great senses of humor. We go on vacations every few months I really feel that helps us connect and not get disengaged with our busy schedules.

     

I’ve always loved Fairfield, we go to beaches and restaurants . I love the people everyone is kind and I have had so many great people help me grow my business as well as mentor me along the way.

I really feel Fairfield is a great place to connect so many people from surrounding towns come to Fairfield for all of the small businesses whether it beFit Club Juijitsu, gymnastics, going out to eat, ice cream . It’s a very entertaining town.

I started my business at 18 . At first we just cut grass but added many services along the way.

We now offer landscaping design. I met our designer Jenn Simko when I was 22 we have worked together ever since she’s like a sister to me. We now offer masonry, fertilizer programs, tick spray, pruning, basically any service you can think of that pertains to landscaping we can provide.

My dad is my hero I have seen him endure so many challenges in his life and now as a 43 year old man I totally understand him even when at times in life it was hard to understand him now, now that  I have grown and matured.

Two months ago we lost my brother to mental illness and our family has decided to start a depression center in my brother Casey’s name to help people get resources for help or just have a safe place to go for the day and through it all my dad enduring the pain is leading the charge to get this going. Our family really wants to bridge the major gaps that we have in our treatment of mental illness.

Advice I would have for a new dad is just be there be involved and don’t let your career eat up all of your family time. Be open and honest with your kids and always share your love with them.
