This week’s Meet a Mom is Samantha Dempsey, Vice President at Vein Institute. She joined us to discuss parenting, local life, and Vein Institute’s commitment to improving the venous health of Connecticut adults.
Where are you originally from and how long have you been in the area?
I was born at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport. I grew up in Shelton and completed my undergraduate degree at Fairfield University. I resided in Shelton with my husband until 2017, when we relocated to Trumbull.

I have a daughter, Charlotte, who is a 6 ½ year old, first grader at St. Catherine of Siena School in Trumbull.
One thing people would be surprised to know about you?
I have had a dream of being an astronaut and going to space since I was a kid. With so many developments in commercial space flights, maybe it will be a reality in the future!
One thing you wish someone would have told you about motherhood?
Never underestimate the necessity of teamwork and the power of having a large network of family support.
Favorite local things to do in Fairfield?
Connecticut is rich in early American history. You can very easily come across wonderful pieces of US history around you.
What’s your favorite thing about raising a family in Fairfield?
Fairfield County is a great, safe place to raise a family. It is full of beautiful neighborhoods, great amenities, a wide range of restaurants and activities and wonderful schools.
Do you have a favorite family friendly restaurant? Date night?
The Melting Pot in Darien is a great fun restaurant to have family dinner or date night. Il Palio in Shelton is also a great date night spot.
What is your go-to activity for your family? For yourself?
The Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport is a great local place to go with the family on a nice day. I like to carve out a little quiet time and go to my favorite spa for a mani-pedi on a Friday afternoon.
Best mom hack that makes your life easier?
I have learned that the best way to get paint out of kids’ clothes is with hairspray, which is a paint solvent. The paint is gone, and the clothes aren’t damaged. Just spray the spot and blot using a cloth. Once the paint is gone, machine wash to remove the hairspray residue.
Name one thing you regret when learning the ropes of parenthood and what you learned from it?
Never compare yourself and your family to others. Social media makes it very easy to get a glimpse into the lives of other, but it is important to remember that pictures don’t always tell the full story and most likely everyone is dealing with the same parenting challenges that you are.
Tell us about your business, when & why you started, and the reason behind it?
Vein Institute is a specialty vein practice dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of vein disease. We are committed to bringing platinum healthcare services to all patients. Vein Institute started in 2008. I joined the organization in 2012 and have proudly grown the practice to multiple clinics around Connecticut.
How did you both decide that this was the right career move for you while having a family to raise?
Vein Institute has always provided me with the opportunity to achieve my professional goals and work to fulfill my passion for healthcare and business development, while having a work-life balance so I can dedicate time to my family.
How do women know if they need to see someone at the Vein Institute?
Women (and men) who are experiencing leg pain, heaviness, swelling, varicose or spider veins, restless leg syndrome or who need to rest and elevate legs at the end of the day should be seen by a vein specialist at Vein Institute.
Where are you located and what is an appointment like?
Vein Institute has 4 locations in Fairfield, Shelton, Newtown, and Avon Connecticut. Our Fairfield office is relocating in September 2021 to 2193 Black Rock Turnpike in the Old Navy Plaza.
A new patient can expect to be welcomed to the practice by our Patient Coordinator who will be a resource during their whole journey with our group. A typical evaluation consists of a consultation with our amazing vein experts to review your concerns, followed by an ultrasound to get a detailed study of your superficial veins.
