Meet a Mom – Gym Owner Janine Ashley of J Ashley Fitness | FairfieldMoms

Meet Janine Trembicki, Fairfield Mom of 2 and owner of a new/local gym, J Ashley Fitness. With her love and knowledge of fitness, she has created a gym that focuses on people taking the time out to focus on their mental and physical health to be the best and strongest version of themselves!

Where are you originally from and how long have you been in Fairfield?

I am originally from Long Island and have been living in Fairfield now for almost 12 years!

Tell us about your Family!

I am a single mom with two fun, loving, active boys Carter (7) and Theo (4).

One thing people would be surprised to know about you?

With my passion of fitness, I have grown up my entire life playing all the sports and continued through college with D1 soccer. With all the sports, games, training, I have never broken, a bone, been seriously injured and have never even had a stitch.

One thing you wish someone would have told you about motherhood?

Enjoy the small moments and try not to rush time because it goes by quicker than we ever expect.

What’s your favorite thing about raising a family in Fairfield?

All the town has to offer for our children as well as the amazing friends/families I have met that help take care of my boys. (it takes a village!)

Best mom hack that makes your life easier?

As a mom of boys everything is a race! Make them do things in a certain amount of time! Make it a race, and you’re way more likely to get it done sooner!

Tell us about your business J Ashley Fitness

J Ashley Fitness is way more to me than a gym. This was my blessing when my life was in a very dark place. I knew my passion and I knew if I wanted to make a life for my boys I needed to do something with that passion. I didn’t have the ability to open space right away, so I set up my garage as a gym, bought all the equipment I needed to run classes of 5-10 people and went all in! J Ashley Fitness is all about getting stronger mentally and physically. It is small group classes where I really am able to give one on one attention to all of my clients to guide them with each exercise, as well as prevent them from injury.

I also do Personal Training where I am able to focus with clients on specific goals and get them there!

Why is it important to workout? How often should people workout and what are your classes like?

If you compare someone who works out with someone who doesn’t, I can almost guarantee the person who does is happier, healthier, busier, sleeps better, has less anxiety, less depression… the list goes on! Exercise is way more than, “looking a certain way.” I always tell my clients it never gets easier, you get stronger and are able to take on a heavier load!

I always recommend that someone who is starting out to listen to their body, but in general you should do some sort of movement 5-6 days a week. My clients who have been with me for a long time, I recommend 2-3 high intensity classes a week, 1-2 days of strength and then a day of easier cardio day. Giving your body enough time to recover between workouts is essential for your body to rebuild the muscle it has broken down during the workout. Also, remember if you don’t recover enough, you won’t be able to give it your all in the next workout and then you get in a bad cycle with no true growth!

Tell us about the different classes you offer?

The two types of classes I offer are Metabolic Conditioning and Strength Classes. MetCon days are high intensity days where are focus is both weights and cardio. These days focus on periods of all out effort and then minimal recovery. My Strength classes are focused on just that, strength. You will push yourself with less reps, but heavier weights. These classes are slower moving, with form being the utmost focus. When you do exercises right, it is amazing how much more effective (and harder) they can be!

Best advice for moms who experience the inevitable MOM GUILT handling a career and raising a family?

It will always be there, but remind yourself how you feel about your mom today. My mom worked full time (and I am one of 6 children). I didn’t get to see her nearly as much as I wanted to, but that isn’t what I remember! And now I am driven by her and am beyond thankful for how she provided for my family. Guilt will always be there, but remind yourself daily this is for them!

Who has most influenced you to be the mom that you are today?

My biggest influence is my own Mom. She has 6 children of her own, worked full time (still works full time at the age of 72!), and went through a lot of heartache and struggles herself. She showed me what it means to be a good mom and that through everything that happens to us, to remind ourselves it is happening for us, not to us!

What advice would you share with a new mom or other moms?

My only advice for a new mom or other mom is just never to compare. Remember, what you see from others is usually a highlight reel of the best moments, Be present with you kids, do the best you can, follow your passion and find your happiness. At the end of the day, if you’re happy, your kids will be happier too!
