Where are you originally from and how long have you been in Fairfield?

I grew up in Mansfield, MA a suburb of Boston. I went to Fairfield University, and I remember going to college here and thinking “wow, what a great place to grow up.” After graduation I moved to Hoboken — that’s where I met my husband John (the old-fashioned way, at a bar). During the 9+ years we were living there we got engaged, married and pregnant. We started looking at “the burbs” and I suggested Fairfield, which made a lot of sense being geographically situated in- between our families, while still a manageable commute to NYC where we were both working. This July is our 11-year anniversary of living in Fairfield!

Tell us about your Family!

My husband John and I have three kids, Nolan (10) and twins Cece + Connor (6 ½).
John works in Finance in NYC and on the weekends, you can find us on sports sidelines all over Fairfield County.

One thing you wish someone would have told you about motherhood?

That it’s supposed to be fun! I think that gets lost in the messaging about motherhood –- there’s a lot of complaining and stress, martyrdom and pressure, but very rarely are we reminded that this journey is also supposed to be FUN for us. The martyr archetype can really take over if we don’t interrupt it. Of course, this is easier said than done when you’re in a tough season, but in between those seasons we deserve to have fun with this role.

What’s your favorite thing about raising a family in Fairfield?

So many things! While my kids are all-in on the sports scene, I love that there are other opportunities so readily available to round them out and expand their world. We love art classes at The Studio, live music at FTC and exploring the beaches.

Best mom hack that makes your life easier?

Wake up before your kids.
Not to work out or pack lunches or “do more,” but simply to start your day on your terms, in your energy and not in
reactive mode to someone needing something from you. I do have a morning routine that I protect fiercely, but even if you don’t, just enjoying a few sips of coffee in silence before your day gets hi-jacked can make all the difference.

Tell us about your business Brooks Betts LLC, and when & why you decided to start up this business?

Brooks Betts is my maiden name, so I’ll clear up that confusion to start, ha! No offense to my husband, but “Dibble” is a bit of a doozy, so I stuck with my roots for the business name.
While I learned a ton and am grateful for the experience, relationships and skills I developed along the way I just never felt aligned in the work I was doing. I was (and am) proud of that work, but I felt like something was missing for me. I was always intuitive and very much an empath, but I never saw these as skills – on the contrary they very much felt like burdens, until I started learning more about them through my own healing journey. I started exploring energy work for better self-understanding and along the way it sort of clicked for me that this was something I could feel really good about sharing with others. It was the lens I was looking for on life.

What is Reiki? Where and how do you book a session?

Reiki is a gentle, but powerful, form of energy work that helps to clear out stagnant energy and emotions to balance the chakra system, alleviating symptoms of anxiety, burnout, stress and pain. It promotes deep relaxation, allowing your body to innately clear out anything not in alignment with its highest good. This creates space for healing and a deeper connection to your own intuition.

My intention for each Reiki session is for you to leave feeling like your burdens are lighter and with clarity and a renewed connection to yourself to make the most aligned choices for your mind, body + spirit.
Reiki sessions are held at the gorgeous and newly renovated DUNE Hotel at Fairfield Beach. You can book a session with me there on my website: https://www.brooksbetts.com/reiki

Is the guided mediation and breathwork included in a reiki session or how and where is that offered?

I begin each Reiki session with some gentle breathing and a guided meditation that introduces you to each of your chakras – the system of energy centers that run along the midline of our body from the base of the spine to the crown. Meditation is a great way to settle in and open up your energy for the Reiki healing.

Tell us about the different services that you offer:

Individual sessions:
 Reiki: As described above! Each session is about 50 minutes long – we spend a few mins talking about your goals for the session at the beginning and some time at the end to review what came up.
https://www.brooksbetts.com/reiki

 Breathwork + Meditation: I teach you breathwork techniques to serve the challenges you’re facing (breath can
be used to relax, but also to balance as well as motivate and energize) and drop into a custom, guided
meditation to explore areas you seek clarity on. https://www.brooksbetts.com/breathwork-meditation
 Intuitive Business Coaching: blending energy + intuition with career can be powerful. We shift the perspective to
blend force + flow for more clarity, motivation and alignment.

Group workshops:

 I host regularly occurring group workshops at Element 50 here in Fairfield. My next workshop is themed “Mindful
Month” and will be on Thursday, June 1 st from 11am-12pm, it’s designed to be an opportunity to pause and getclear on your goals for the new month ahead. Sign up here: https://www.brooksbetts.com/mindfulmonth
 I also work with companies + nonprofits to offer wellness programming for employees, I’m kicking off a 6-month
series with the financial firm IQEQ in June, which I’m looking forward to!

Best advice for moms who experience the inevitable MOM GUILT handling a career and raising a family?

Quality > Quantity
Time away from your kids that allows you to show up as a more present mom is not something to feel guilty about.

Who has most influenced you to be the mom that you are today?
Definitely my mom!

But also, the village of moms I’ve met along the way – I have learned so much from each of them and even though we all do some things differently, there is always something we can learn from each other.

What advice would you share with a new mom?

When in doubt, go outside. Leaving the house in those early days/weeks/months with a baby is daunting BUT it’s always a great way to reset. Whether it’s getting some fresh air or strapping everyone in so you can hit the drive-through for a coffee, you’ll all benefit from a change in scenery and interruption to the feeding/crying/diaper/bottle washing loop!

Oh and take more family photos with YOU in them…I just had to dig deep to find a few for this interview!
