Bathroom Renovation! What we did and why we love it! | FairfieldMoms

We have been in our house and in Fairfield for almost 7 years. We ended up buying a house that was pretty up to date and didn’t have to do a lot of work other then paint (the people before us loved browns and gold tones throughout the house) and we wanted light and beachy, so we went with grays and whites. Each year we have saved for a different project that we wanted to get done. We slowly did the first floor bathroom, redid the front porch, walk way and driveway, the big one was the kitchen (which I will show in another post), and lastly our master bathroom. It wasn’t bad and pretty up to date just not our taste.

My husband Scott is handy and also loves to find designs so I let him handle what it should look like and I just okayed it. He is a big fan of Pintrest for ideas and inspiration and would text Amber for her opinion, which we valued (my FairfieldMoms partner and owner of RowlanTides, interior design). We then got 3 different quotes and finally went with Joe from J&M Construction and Son.  We’ve used them for other projects (both large and small scale)  and we appreciate their reliability, timeliness, and most important, the finished product.  He is very thorough and detailed in how he quotes his jobs, so nothing is hidden and you aren’t surprised in the end.  What we noticed with other contractors, is that some are very vague and won’t go into details when bidding out projects.  That is not the case with J&M Construction.  Owner Joe Theriault is very thorough and detailed in quoting jobs so nothing is hidden and you aren’t surprised in the end. You have to compare apples to apples when it comes to getting quotes and we know with J&M adds in everything including things we don’t always think about.

We like to save money where we can so my husband, did a lot of demo himself.  We really wanted to do a curbless base on the shower and replace the door with a frameless shower door. That took about 2 weeks to get since they custom make it from Mr. Showerdoor. We also had the vanity custom made from a builder in NJ since we needed a more narroe then standard dept vanities found. And we took the closet doors off the linen closet, which I have to say I like and looks great, but walllpapering the shelves wasnt the easiest!

Some parts weren’t as easy as we thought (thank you cement shower base) so J&M completed the projectfor us within two weeks (FYI this was pre-corona virus times). The bathroom is upstairs and we have carpeted stairs, so they put down a tarp on the stairs each day which I really appreciated. Besides working with a great contractor we needed a plumber and an electrician to take care of internal stuff.  We used local companies we know and trust..

Our Master Bath which as you can see is pretty big and open but we wanted to give it an up to date look and wow does it change the look and is a million times better, why didn’t we do this sooner! I really didn’t believe with a curbless shower door that no water with get on the floor outside the shower and its amazing!

Here is the after of our fully renovated bathroom!
