Where are you originally from and how long have you been in Fairfield?
I grew up in Weston, CT, and attended Weston Public Schools from elementary through high school. After college, I lived in New York City for a while, but Fairfield became home in 2015 when I met my now-husband.
Tell us about your family!
I have a wonderfully close-knit family that keeps life full and exciting. My husband and I are proud parents to two boys—my stepson, who’s 12, and my 5-year-old son, who just started kindergarten this year. Life with two boys is busy (and loud!), but we always prioritize family time. Whether we’re enjoying outdoor adventures, spending summers at the Jersey Shore, or just hanging out at home, my family is the heart of everything I do.

One thing people would be surprised to know about you?
I played soccer in college and was an All-State goalie for Weston High School!
One thing you wish someone would have told you about motherhood?
Don’t feel guilty about taking time for yourself. Motherhood is beautiful, but it can also be overwhelming. When you take care of yourself—whether that’s exercising, reading, or simply having quiet time—you recharge and show up as a better mom. Think of it like this: you can’t pour from an empty cup!
What’s your favorite thing about raising a family in Fairfield?
The people here are so friendly! Whether I’m walking downtown with my kids or visiting a local playground, there’s always someone kind and willing to stop and chat. It’s such a warm and welcoming community.
Best mom hack that makes your life easier?
A shared iPhone calendar with my husband. It keeps us both organized and on the same page—no excuses for “I didn’t know” when it comes to the schedule!
Tell us about your business, Lila Sussman Therapy, and when & why you decided to start this business.
I started Lila Sussman Therapy LLC five years ago after my son was born. Before that, I worked in drug rehabilitation centers, but the work-life balance was tough, and I knew I wanted something more flexible. Opening my practice gave me the opportunity to help clients in meaningful ways while also being present for my kids. I’m deeply passionate about helping people heal and navigate life’s challenges, and this practice lets me do that while balancing what matters most to me—my family.

What is your background before opening your own practice?
Therapy runs in the family! Both my mom and dad are therapists, and they’re still practicing today. Growing up, I saw how rewarding it was to help people for a living, and I always knew I wanted to do something similar. My parents instilled in me a deep sense of compassion and empathy, which shaped my desire to support others through life’s challenges.

Best advice for moms who experience the inevitable “mom guilt” while handling a career and raising a family?
Give yourself some grace and let go of perfection. You’re setting an incredible example for your kids by pursuing your passions while being a loving parent. Taking care of yourself and your goals isn’t selfish—it’s showing your children what balance and self-respect look like.
Who has most influenced you to be the mom that you are today?
My parents have been my greatest influence. Their dedication to both their work and our family showed me what it means to live with compassion and balance. They’ve shaped not only how I parent but also how I approach my career.
What advice would you share with a new mom or other moms?
Don’t be afraid to ask for help—motherhood isn’t meant to be a solo journey! Build a strong support system and lean on it when you need to. And most importantly, savor the little moments—they pass by so quickly, but they’re the ones you’ll cherish forever.
