Meet a Mom – LUX Poppin – Sonny Meza | FairfieldMoms

Hi! My name is Sonny Meza and I am a wife and mom to two residing in the Brooklawn County club area of Fairfield! I own LUX POPPIN, an event rental and balloons company! We met Sonny last year when she blew us (literally) away with her balloons and decor at the Taste of Fairfield and watched her grow incredibly fast. Her energy is contagious and her stuff is beautiful! She keeps adding items to her collection and her husband helps her at events and build some of the decor. It truly is a family business! Meet Sonny and contact her for your next event!

Where are you originally from and how long have you been in Fairfield?

I’m originally from Fairfield! After graduating UCONN I moved to Los Angeles where I spent 10 years, got married and had 2 children. In 2022 our family moved back to my childhood town.

Tell us about your Family!

My husband Danny and I have been married for 10 years after a 6-month relationship! We have two beautiful children, Cameron and Zoey.

One thing people would be surprised to know about you?

I was an amazing Skier! My name was on Fairfield High School’s banner for many years before it recently got taken down. (I’m getting old!) I ski’d for Fairfield High School and made the CT Ski Team which consisted of the top 10 skiers in the state. I also ski’d for Okemo mountain for 20 years.

One thing you wish someone would have told you about motherhood?:

Don’t sweat the small stuff! There are so many pressures to do “this and that”…and we can easily get lost in our own heads. Allow yourself grace and remember how good of a Mom you are!

What’s your favorite thing about raising a family in Fairfield?

The schools and the community. We are grateful for such great schooling and teachers.

Best mom hack that makes your life easier?

Having helping hands on your side! Having a community of friends you can rely on!

Tell us about your business, and when & why you decided to start up this business?

I started LUX POPPIN when I was living in Los Angeles. My mom had Lou Gherig’s disease; better known as ALS; for 8 years so my husband and I would travel back and forth from LA to CT every month as her disease progressed. This had me missing work often and I wanted to start a side business to supplement my income. I have always loved throwing parties and entertaining. I had seen the cutest picnic setup on Instagram and decided I wanted to start offering micro-gatherings and picnic parties. I started very part time as I was also working full time for a corporate job. After almost 1 year of planning micro-gatherings I received my first inquiry for balloons. After the first installation I became obsessed with the art of balloons and joined an academy where I became classically trained in balloon styling. In December 2020 my dad contract Covid and he spent the next 70 days in the hospital until he passed away from his illness. This ultimately led me to leave my corporate job and go into party planning/ballooning full time. In 2022 we relocated back to my childhood town and brought our business along with us. The rest is history in the making!

What were you doing before you started this business?

I had worked in corporate jobs all my life; even in college. I was working for an HVAC company as an operations assistant and hosting micro-gatherings part time. After my parents got sick I decided it was time for me to pursue my dream full time.

Tell us about the different services that you offer?

We offer Balloon installations of all sizes! From community to corporate events; we host it all! We’re a full service party planning business specializing in organic balloon installations with unique backdrops and party props. Additionally, we carry THE BUBBLY PALACE bubble house and luxury modern bounce houses for rent. We were the first company to own a bubble house and Fairfield Moms Easter Brunch was the first event we ever hosted! We consider ourselves pioneers in our industry and absolutely love what we do!

Best advice for moms who experience the inevitable MOM GUILT handling a career and raising a family?

Work life balance can be so hard! Try to find time to put your phone down and enjoy the years you have with your littles. Owning a business consumes every part of you so having the ability to take time out of your day for your littles is important.

Who has most influenced you to be the mom that you are today?

My own mother. I lost her in January 2022 and I miss her every day. I always wonder how she would want me to do things and if she is proud of the Woman I am today.

What advice would you share with a new mom or other moms?

Don’t sweat the small stuff! Do what your gut tells you. Not everyone is going to give you good advice.
