Meet a Mom – Corey Allen

A Mom of three who grew up in Trumbull. In her career she has maintained her Private Practice for over 10 years, where she provides psychoanalytic therapy. With the breakthrough research of Psychedelic Assisted Psychotherapy, Corey has been trained by the OGs themselves and is now one of the first in our state to offer this. Where are you originally from and how long have you been in Fairfield?

A: I grew up in Trumbull with my 4 other siblings and moved the furthest away here in Fairfield lol. Rebel.

Tell us about your Family!

A: My partner in crime, Matt, @theallenadventure, is my knight in shining armor. We have three really cool kids that teach us to be patient, to pay attention and to get back that kid in us. They are 8, 6 and 3.

One thing people would be surprised to know about you?

A: I homeschool! Totally never thought I’d be in this space… but here I am!

One thing you wish someone would have told you about motherhood?

A: That we will be too hard on ourselves. That when we have those super hard days and our eyes are filled with tears as we fall asleep, we are still amazing Mamas.

What’s your favorite thing about raising a family in Fairfield?

A: The neighborhood community we live in. Walking to the beach for summer days and downtown for summer nights. Block parties, firepits and the neighborhood “I got your back” feeling.

Best mom hack that makes your life easier?

A: Lollipops in the car.

Tell us about your business, and when & why you decided to start up this business?

A: I started @thewholebeing in 2013. I am a psychoanalytical and psychedelic therapist that understands how the entirety of a person, from their interpretations to their dreams and actions, need to be validated. Every individual is so unique and resilient and I continue to be honored that they choose me for support in this wild journey called life.

Why is it important to see a therapist?

A: Well, I’m a bit biased! However, in my practice, I’m here to allow you to make space for yourself. With no judgement. To invite and welcome all of the different parts that you have. Good, bad, indifferent, strong, weak, healthy, unhealthy, old, young; we all have them. You can really get to know yourself; the authentic you, before everyone else’s stuff got stuck there.

Tell us about the different services that you offer:

A: I now offer Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy treatment in office which is a game changer for people that need a reboot. After treatment it has been proven to allow a person to cultivate trust within themselves, to lessen depression significantly, it reduces the brain activity that’s involved with negative self talk, rumination, self monitoring, to strengthening synaptic connections in the brain. I have seen remarkable changes within people’s attitudes towards themselves. They become more calm, more thoughtful, happy.

Best advice for moms who experience the inevitable MOM GUILT handling a career and raising a family?

A: Let the guilt out. Hug them and tell them how much you miss them then allow yourself to disconnect and play with them. And also remember, there are plenty of other things you are going to feel guilty about while raising these little humans. You are doing the best you can.

Who has most influenced you to be the mom that you are today?

A: My first born daughter.

What advice would you share with a new mom or other moms?

A: We won’t have the chance to be their best friends forever, so make the time and cherish it.
